ZeroSpace + Sougwen - Genesis
VR 3D paint application for artist Sougwen Chung's GENESIS installation
For this project, Sougwen Chung enlisted the help of ZeroSpace to work on an exhibition title GENESIS where in she would showcase a 3D sculpture printed from a 3D version that she had painted in VR, also showing a virtual avatar of herself doing the painting.
I was approached by ZeroSpace to work with them on this project. My role was creating the software and vfx for doing the 3D sculpture inside Unreal Engine, to be used by Sougwen. I created it through Niagara and Blueprints, and it ran on a Quest 3 mobile VR headset.

Interactive 3D painting in VR
The input mechanism was the Quest controllers, with the ability to control thickness with the grip button pressure. Playing to Sougwen’s style, I added lots of bells and whistles to the paint program such as the ability to paint with symetry, or have some of the strokes displace themselves softly with curl noise as they are dropped down to add organice randomness. I also created an emissive glow as the mark was made for aesthetic appeal in the video
