EyeJack + Verizon
5G interactive installation
Players between LA and Boston compete to gather points by moving their body in space to capture virtual objects. This was a project for Verizon to utilize and promote their 5G technology. I was contracted by Sutu through EyeJack to help design and implement the game mechanics and visual content for this experience.
Highlights
- Multiplayer game experience using Verizon 5G network for low latency.
- iPhone lidar scanners to generate player avatars.
- I created the visual design and content for the second half of the game.
- I came up with, designed and implemented the “whack-a-mole” interaction that became the main game mechanic for the experience.
- Wrote C# production code for the “whack-a-mole” interaction that could synchronize properly across multiple machines.

The challenge
Coming into the project, Sutu had already designed the core of the experience, so my task was to build on this and add in my own artistic style and come up with a game idea that would work with the iPhone lidar scanners and 5G networked system developed by creative tech studio Code on Canvas
The aesthetic, I drew on previous work I’d done for Teenage Engineering, making the neon cube landscape. The game was the most challenging as the data I had to work with was a sparse point cloud of the person as well as a 2D projected collider of their silhouette. I ended up designing a whack-a-mole type game, as it worked best under the constraints and is an easy to understand and fun concept that gets you moving around.
